About Karen (KK) Clardy

Born in 1963, during a time of segregation and the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Karen (KK) Clardy works out her southern heritage on canvas — juxtaposing her love of celebrity culture and hip hop music to create a depiction of these two worlds colliding. Her works incorporate vintage advertisements mixed with modern icons, stereotypes and equal rights, making the viewer joyful and uncomfortable at the same time while expressing how far we have come and how far we have yet to go in eradicating inequality in all of its many disguises.
